The challenge of our work is to couple imagination with a sound application of system analysis, to support complex problem resolution and decision making in different environments: cities, regions, transport, mobility and energy systems and ecosystems. This approach has been used in a variety of research and demonstration projects that have helped decision makers at European, national and local level to design and implement sustainable strategies and assess their economic, environmental and social impacts |

The increasing mobility of people and goods is a social and economic necessity, one which however causes congestion, and considerable environmental and social costs. There is a need to enhance sustainable transport policies and programmes fostering clean, safe and efficient travels throughout Europe as well as in our urban environments. |

The integration of strategies and policies for the sustainable development of our territories (metropolitan areas, coastal regions, transport corridors etc.) is a broad and complex area of investigation. The integration of sectoral policies, and policy integration across levels of government is increasingly perceived as a pivotal factor, one which requires more ethical and transparent decision making processes including stakeholders and citizens participation. ISIS has participated to a large number of leading EU research projects dealing with urban and mobility planning, integration of land use and transport policies, citizens participation in the evaluation of EU policies and research. |

Ensuring a sustainable environment and a secure and competitive energy supply are growing needs and policy challenges. They require strategic thinking, long-term commitment and concrete actions, involving policy makers, stakeholders and citizens alike. ISIS has participated to a large number of leading EU research projects dealing with energy saving in sectors such as households, industry, transport, and tertiary, and assessing the environmental and social costs of energy production and consumption. |
